Risk Communication

In contaminated land projects, communication between stakeholders is critically important. It can determine how smoothly the project will run and affect the reputation of the participants.

The UK's industrial legacy means that many developments have unknowingly been built on, or close to, historically contaminated land. Unfortunately, even the term "contaminated land" can lead to undue public anxiety and cause potential blight on local property.

Contaminated land projects involve many stakeholder groups with diverse backgrounds and interests. Each will have a different understanding of the issues and may have distinct views on project priorities and decision making. This can lead to significant projects delays, severe social and economic consequences and damage to the reputation of teh site owner, developer and/or regulators.

An effective communication strategy allow technical and non-technical issues to be clearly presented and understood. It enables all stakeholders to contribute their views. Clear communication helps allay fears and contributes towards a positive relationship between all parties involved.

Our Approach

We have proven experience in delivering an integrated communications approach that addresses the needs and concerns of all stakeholders in a contaminated land project. We combine our communications and technical expertise in contaminated land risk management to develop site-specific communications strategies that help explain, justify and, if necessary, defend a project and reduce unfounded concerns.
